Classic Matte Paper Wooden Framed Poster - View from the closed section of PR 191 from Naguabo - The Rio Sabana Park - a part of El Yunque.
This is a view from the closed section of PR 191 from Naguabo - The Rio Sabana Park - a part of El Yunque.
This lost road was a section of several miles of the main Yunque road built in the 1940's across the park - the PR 191.
Then after the middle a huge landslide in the 60's destroyed the road, flooded miles with soil and a forest grew on it.
Several attempts to repair the rupture were failures eventually and a miracle happened:
What was going to be a major traffic road between two towns was closed and designated as part of the forest.
This saved EYNF from a lot of pollution, noise and traffic unrelated to the park. It enabled the over 4M visitors before Maria.
The USFS placed a gate in the highest part and then was closed on both sides for over 20 years.
Visitors are free to walk on it's 2.5 hour stretch.
It is the access point to the Tradewinds Trail (closed) and the maintenance road to
El Yuque Peak and Mt Britton tower, and many associated trails and peaks.
