Location: Rio Sabana river and trail - El Yunque rain forest Puerto Rico.
El Toro US National Wilderness protected region. Exploration by Raul
in 10/28-10/29/2019. Access via PR-191 from Naguabo - the other
side of El Yunque, via PR-52 Expressway.
Hurricane Maria Damages:
Many Images show fallen, broken or bent trees or Sierra Palms.
Often we see them in the river, uprooted. This is from Hurricane Maria in
9/20/2017 with 140 mph winds for 12 hours. There was also a nearby
hurricane Dorian that did cause some small damage a few weeks before.
Weather: We had local rain in the forest for several days before, during
the night of 9/29 and then next day afternoon we had a very heavy rain
all afternoon. This caused flash floods in all local rivers.
This is documented here and we have many 4K videos of this expedition.
I had to cross two flooded streams that cross the trail to return,
a very dangerous maneuver.
