Holy Spirit River deep-forest explorations - El Yunque rainforest Puerto Rico.
This was EYNF before Hurricane Maria in 2017. This upper region is where Raul started exploring the beginnings of the Holy Spirit river - a 20 day exploration. The fallen tree and most around are Sierra Palms. Note how thick the forest was then. In 9/20/2017 EYNF had its canopy decimated by Marias winds > 140 MPH for 12 hours. These images are an historic record of the forest with a undisturbed growth for over 50 years. The rain water (over 200 inches a year) come down this ravine and starts forming the river basin.
Note how slow the river moves at this point.

About El Yunque Rainforest - Puerto Rico:
Weather: 70-80F, 99% humidity, 200 inches a year, 100 Billion gallons of rain per year
These images are a set from over 20 days living in the forest in about 2 years of explorations.
The aim was to find a lost trail that led most of the way into the birth of Rio Espiritu Santo. I has travelled this trail many times in the 1970's but it was lost in a landslide in the 14 km Tradewinds trail. The river and most of the trail is designated as a US Federal national protected area by law.
This trail was for scientific research in the 1960-1980's in El Yunque, where a nuclear device was planted (not here, but in El Verde) to study the effects of radiation on the forest ecosystems … and a planned creation of a canal quickly via nuclear bombs in Nicaragua - but this a long story...
In summary after about 20 days we (I was with my son Jose then) found the trail - how excited I was! 20-days of searching in such a muddy and dense forest - I survived many dangers...mostly alone. The trail was a eroded a lot by the 200 inches or rain here...its boulders were rounded!
I then used the trail to go further, since the river itself became impassable due to trunks etc.
Here I document, in an historic set of images, of the deep forest BEFORE Hurricane Maria in 9/20/2017 - were the forest canopy was decimated by 140 MPH winds for 12 hrs.
It will take now several decades, assuming no hurricane hits PR again, to recover as it was here.
Details: the river moves slowly, its mostly flat, and most trees seen are Sierra Palms.
The forest is dark and deep, no more the case after the hurricane... The orange color is due to decomposition. White long objects are usually Sierra Palm new branch covers. The forest has over 250 species of trees, far more than US forests. This is were dinosaurs lived... it is ancient and preserved for millions of years … and can even survive hurricanes!

Camera: Nikon D3300, full resolution, 24MP - mostly 2014-2015.
All scenes are intact - nothing was changed.
Formats: By special order these images can be printed in larger canvas or metallic prints.
Suggestion: Place a bright battery LED source behind and will see the place come alive!!!
Pricing: The top pricing here is for the biggest framed canvas, all smaller canvas are in proportion. The formula used to set the price is based on the 20 explorations days it took to get these images of a place very deep in the forest and not longer possible, due to Hurricane Maria in 2017 that destroyed the forest canopy. El Yunque is now a very different place... These are truly historic images!
I also risked my life every day since, I was mostly alone in the forest depths, crossing an extremely wet, muddy, rocky, with deep water-drainage pits - an indescribable terrain, were no one would help me (or find me) in case of an accident. So these are unique images obtained under trying circumstances with huge effort and privation. Now in the comfort of your home or office you can enjoy seeing into them - with no dangers or effort. And I am glad to share them with your and your family!
The formula is 8 hrs per exploration day, $10 per hour or $80 per day.
Then 80 x 20 days its $1,600 for the largest canvas. The discount is due to being unframed. These framed canvas made in the USA cost twice as much.
