Lets go on - step#4 - What the hell is EPIDEMIOLOGY?

The Key Question Nobody Asks

What is EPIDEMIOLOGY?

REF Read about an Epidemiologist that may have saved over 1,000,000 American Lives:

Dr Fauci

Note: My original estimates were that based on China's 4% mortality if the entire USA was infected we could have 4% of about 12M people dead. It was far off but not in crowded places like NYC...

It is funny how much coverage the Press have given Covid 19 and Dr, Fauci and other Epidemiologists - but I never saw them really explaining or discussing:

 What is EPIDEMIOLOGY?

We have several answers here - this one is by me, the next by the CDC in other blog posts - and they are good.

Basically EPIDEMIOLOGY is science (medicine) + collecting data + tracings causes of illness like a detective.

They study hundreds of cases of massive illness outbreaks (virus, bacteria, chemicals etc) and become experts at them.

So an experienced EPIDEMIOLOGIST is LIKE GOLD. His or her experience can save millions - IF the right people LISTEN to them.

HOW IT STARTED:

What i remember is that a smart doctor noted in a map all the locations of a large number of patients and noted there was a cluster around a water well - map attached. In those times - the 19th century there was no public water pipes - just common wells. He was alarmed by the incident of cholera and pushed the government to close the well. It was closed and the outbreak stopped.

Some details from wiki:

John Snow is famous for his investigations into the causes of the 19th-century cholera epidemics, and is also known as the father of (modern) epidemiology.

He began with noticing the significantly higher death rates in two areas supplied by Southwark Company. His identification of the Broad Street pump as the cause of the Soho epidemic is considered the classic example of epidemiology.

Snow used chlorine in an attempt to clean the water and removed the handle; this ended the outbreak.

This has been perceived as a major event in the history of public health and regarded as the founding event of the science of epidemiology, having helped shape public health policies around the worldHowever, Snow's research and preventive measures to avoid further outbreaks were not fully accepted or put into practice until after his death.

Coronavirus Task force

As usual the President uses the Pandemic to get the podium and free press

And officially he put the VP Pence in charge - so HE gets the blame...

 Sketches of the Life of

Dr Anthony Fauci:

American physician and immunologist who has served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1984.

Since January 2020, he has been one of the lead members of the Trump Administration's White House Coronavirus Task Force addressing the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. Fauci is considered one of the most trusted medical figures in the country.

Second is the only person associated with Pres. Trump that has not been officially fired, maybe just ignored. I am sure jealousy was the main factor...only pawns in the WH.
